Funding, resources and suppliers

Our garden project would not be possible without the support we have had over the years, and all of the time, materials, donations and support from our community, it has been a group effort from the outset and its success has been and remains one of much involvement from many.

Huge thanks go to our Parent Teacher Association, school families past and present, our volunteers both children and grown-ups, friends and neighbours in nearby villages and towns, local (and indeed regional, national and sometimes international!) businesses and corporate backers, private donors, grant makers from trusts and foundations, and charitable and third sector programmes supporting growing and outdoor learning initatives.

We welcome ALL of your support, and continue to thank you all!

As always, school budgets are limited and do not extend to all of the enrichment activities LCPS offers, including that of the Edible Garden. If you are able and willing to support us in any way possible, we are very grateful. Please do get in touch on gardening@littlechalfontprimaryschool.co.uk if you can help with any of the below, or anything else!:

  • Sponsorship - we need to generate income to keep the garden going and to cover specialist teaching time and personnel in the garden to work with the children. Please do get in touch if you think you or your business could become one of our sponsors for the year, or make a regular donation.
  • Expertise - do you have skills you could offer to grow our work? We are exploring the possibility of setting up a separate charity and are looking for potential trustees with skills particularly in fundraising, accounting, administration, websites and social media.
  • Volunteering - we always have long lists of things that need doing in the garden, from DIY and maintenance to planting, potting and projects! Could you spare some time either regularly or as a one-off? Would you like to learn new skills for your own garden or help with your children's learning or class sessions? We welcome all volunteers from LCPS families  and our wider community, and from local businesses, whatever your skill level. No gardening knowledge or experience necessary, just an interest and willingness to try new things! We would also welcome those with skills in citizen science and plant recording to grow this aspect of what we do with the children, those with cookery skills and passion to help us do more "field to fork" food cookery classes with the children, turning their home-grown produce into delicious treats in our children's cookery kitchen at school, or if you are interested in becoming part of our annual planning and propagating crew.  And holiday watering volunteering is an easy place to begin! Please do come and talk to us about what might work for you.
  • Materials - perhaps you have surplus garden tools or equipment you no longer need, or are having a garage clear-out? We'd love to hear from you if you have anything we might find useful, however big or small.
  • Plants - are you a keen plantsperson and have spare plants you could share with us, either edibles or ornamentals, for our edible, wild, quiet and sensory gardens and fundraising sales? We are currently looking for low maintenance and drought-tolerant perennial plants for our quiet and sensory gardens, particularly if they have sensory (fragrant, sound or tactile qualities) or seasonally distinctive elements for our Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter gardens.
  • Starting or leaving the school and would like to mark your time with us - please ask us what's on our one-off wishlist of plants and equipment that could be your LCPS legacy - we have lots of fun ideas!

With grateful thanks to the below (and all those who wish to remain anonymous)
